8. Ambedkar Social Justice Center (2012-16)

Worker Entitlement
More than 50 million migrant workers from India migrate interstates due to lack of livelihood opportunities at home. Some ongoing problems related to the working conditions, working hours, water, sanitation, women safety, safety equipment and forced labor are very common sufferings of the workers and their families.
Mahad has been working with many communities for two decades for their safety and social protection. Mahad aims to reduce the prevalence of forced labor conditions and resolve issues with worker centered approach through— Prevention- dissemination of information in the community, providing access to social security schemes; Response- technology based tracking of workers, immediate case relevant assistance; Rehabilitation- linking to welfare mechanisms;
and System reform- working with government departments and private agencies for large scale policy and practice changes.
Worker Entitlement
1. Pre-Departure & Post-Arrival Training
Equipping migrant workers for safe passage and successful entry into their destinations.
Training includes legal rights awareness, safe migration practices, and redress mechanisms against exploitation.
2. Social Security Benefits & Application Assistance
Enabling direct access to government welfare schemes.
Raising community awareness about available benefits.
Assisting workers in the application process, including:
Securing documents to prove eligibility.
Filling out applications and tracking responses.
Escalating complaints in case of benefit denial.
3. Impact & Achievements (2022-2025)
70,481 applications submitted for 38,894 worker families to avail various welfare schemes.
27,658 worker documents rectified, enabling access to key schemes:
One Nation One Ration Card (food security).
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Bima Yojana (health insurance).
E-Shram (social security for unorganized workers).
Sambal Card Yojana (support for unorganized sector workers).

•Garima Abhiyan & Dalit Adhikar Abhiyan Partnership in Rashtriya Garima Abhiyan 2004-2005- Eradicated manual scavenging completely from Harda District of Madhya Pradesh. 335 families became free from this inhuman practice.
•Partnership with actionaid in Dalit Adhikar Abhiyan-2006-2016.
Dalit Muslim women started new employments as they use to get tuberculosis from making bidis.

Promoting Constitutional Awareness
- Mahad integrates constitutional discussions into women’s and workers’ group meetings.
- Between 2022-2025, 1,255 meetings were conducted to educate women and youth on their civic rights.
- Trained 255 volunteers to spread legal awareness and social justice.
Eliminating Discriminatory Practices
- Through Jaati Chhodo Bharat Jodo Yatra, 4,560 public spaces (schools, Panchayats, Aanganwadis, hand pumps) were freed from untouchability.
- Ended discriminatory rural practices such as drinking tea in broken cups and eating in cattle sheds.
- In 118 schools across 8 districts, 2,345 children now enjoy equal education rights.
