Migrant Resilience Collaboration (MRC) Programme

Since October 2024, Mahad Samajik Nyay Evam Vikas Samiti has been collaborating with the Azim Premji Foundation to implement the Migrant Resilience Collaboration (MRC) program in Harda district, Madhya Pradesh.

• A Notable Milestone includes the registration of over 28,000 migrant families, with benefits secured for thousands of workers. The program also prioritizes women’s leadership by establishing women’s labor collectives to promote gender equity in migration policies and practices.

• Through workshops, helpline support, and proactive legal interventions, MRC strives to make migration a safe and dignified pathway out of poverty. This partnership with the Azim Premji Foundation enables Mahad to deepen its commitment to social justice and the well-being of marginalized communities.

Jan Sahas Collaboration

• Awareness sessions, community meetings, and pamphlet distributions were conducted to educate workers about their rights and the support available to them.

•  Our interventions helped resolve critical issues such as wage disputes, with a notable case recovering ₹1.2 lakh for affected workers. In addition, we facilitated access to various government schemes, enabling families to secure job cards, pensions, and Ayushman health cards. Between December 2020 and March 2021, over 5,000 applications were filed for migrant families under different social welfare schemes.

• The team also conducted detailed surveys of migrant families to understand their challenges better and ensure targeted interventions. These efforts have not only provided immediate relief but have also laid the foundation for sustained support and empowerment of migrant workers and their families during these challenging times.

In Collaboration with Jan Sahas (2020)

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Mahad Social Justice and Development Committee, in collaboration with Jan Sahas, undertook extensive relief efforts to support the most vulnerable communities in the Harda District of Madhya Pradesh

• To address the immediate needs of affected families, we distributed essential dry ration kits, cooked meals, masks, sanitizers, and sanitary pads to 170 families across Timarni, Khirkiya, and Sirali blocks. Each ration kit contained essential items such as rice, wheat flour, oil, lentils, spices, and vegetables.

• Alongside material support, we provided counseling and emotional support to those struggling with the uncertainty and hardships brought on by the crisis. Our team collaborated closely with local stakeholders, including government authorities, Anganwadi workers, and panchayats, to ensure efficient and inclusive relief measures.

• Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, all activities were carried out in strict adherence to COVID-19 safety guidelines to safeguard the health of both beneficiaries and team members.

ActionAid Collaboration

• The initiative focused on training community leaders and strengthening their capacity to promote constitutional rights and values.

• Through various training sessions, Mahad successfully empowered 400 community leaders from these districts. Additionally, the project made significant progress in eradicating untouchability, bringing change in over 3,000 public spaces, including schools and Anganwadi center.

• Through this initiative, Mahad has empowered women and youth by creating forums like Hausla Samooh and Aman Yuva Samooh to challenge patriarchal norms and foster leadership.

• The program has also established platforms like Bhagat Singh Bal Clubs to ensure children’s access to quality education and prevent school dropouts. Advocacy efforts have led to increased access to social security benefits, alternative livelihood opportunities, and greater awareness of government welfare schemes.

• By uniting Dalit and Muslim communities, the initiative works to establish harmony and social transformation, creating a foundation for sustainable and inclusive development.
